Cardinals fans REJOICE!
Dennis Green officially has sixteen wins for the Cardinals, IN THREE YEARS! After three absolutely abysmal seasons, Michael Bidwill and Rod Graves met with the media on new years day to announce the new opening in the Cardinals organization. This is the best post-football weekend headline that Cards fans have seen in…three years.
The team has now set their sights on a few coaches. Graves revealed a short list of candidates including Ron Rivera (Bears defensive coordinator), Norm Chow (Titans offensive coordinator), Mike Sherman (Texans as assistant head coach/offense) Ken Whisenhunt (Pittsburgh offensive coordinator), Russ Grimm (assistant head coach/offensive line), and Jim Caldwell (Colts assistant head coach/quarterbacks). The Cardinals have contacted the coaches’ current teams but have not directly spoken to the candidates.
I imagine that there wont be much news until after the Superbowl, meaning that Graves and Bidwill will have PLENTY of time to make a good decision. The team does not need a proven winner. They do not need a strong hand of discipline. They do not need a big name.
The Arizona Cardinals need an offensive minded head coach who can take all of the weapons and use them efficiently. The team is better equipped than James Bond, they just need a base to report to. Where was Mike Martz in the list of possible candidates?
Hopefully signing Graves to a new 3-year contract was also a positive decision, but fans will not find out until next season. Let the off-season transactions begin.
