Re: Looks like Tank Johnson is trying to straighten himself out. He's doing a good job with the Cowboys, and the Bears probably realize letting him go was a mistake - given that Gilbert has a reputation for being racist. Before you jump up and down to defend one of the worst crime metro areas in the U.S. - I did a computer prokject for the FBI in 2000. They rank police departments by various categories.

I do not know Tank but I do know the PD departments in this country who hire "rogue cops," and fall short of measuring up. I did not witness this personally - so can only pass it along - However, I have been told from a person who frequents a sports bar in the area that the cop who stoped Tank was joking about it with his buddies.

AS it turned out, Tank was doing nothing wrong. He's young and needs to grow in judgment to recognize that you are a marked man in early morning hours in any major metro area - especially around Phoenix area if you are Black. It is that simple.

I split my time between Gold Canyon and California (Bay Area)

This site is great, but you guys need to cut out the minor political crap. Tank Johnson is probably a very violent individual, but owning "assault weapons" and handguns and a lot of ammo doesn't mean he is a violent, bad person. I know plenty of hunters and recreational shooters who have lots of so-called assault weapons and handguns who are neither violent nor criminals. 500 rounds of ammunition isn't near as much as it sounds like either. 2-3 people could easily go through that in a day at the shooting range.

I'm not excusing Tank of his actions; my bet is that he is pretty bad guy. He was also most likely breaking Illinois/Chicago laws because their state and city laws are very restrictive, and he should be charged accordingly. But lets be clear, owning a bunch of guns and ammo doesn't make someone violent; committing violent actions defines an individual as violent. No need to take cheap shots at the 2nd amendment in an otherwise good article. I would suggest that if you want this site to be successful you will restrict its content to sports and only sports. There are plenty of political blogs out there to write about "evil assault weapons" (even though you probably have no idea what the legal difference is between assault weapons and "normal" firearms).
