Calgary Flames Wins Game 5-2; Roenick Spits Up Again

Phoenix Coyotes

Every time the Coyotes travel to the Canadian provinces, Jeremy Roenick finds himself in the midst of it. He ditches his team because he wants to sulk inside a restaurant, to have a beer and to be depressed that he is not playing.

Then, management tries to assuage the guy by saying stuff like "You are the future of the team. We want you to stay. Know your role. We're on your side."

Later, they travel northward again and then he states the following:

I would obviously love to be traded to a Stanley Cup contender, to a team in the playoffs,” Roenick said after the morning skate on Monday. “To get that feeling again (after) being out of the playoffs here and being driven down to the basement like I have.

“(I’ve been) swept through the mud, so to say.

I found out about this quote by way of the hockey telecast tonight.

Swept through the mud? Please…He might be suffering from delusions of grandeur and the last time I checked there was some medication for that. Who wants a forward who bails on his team? Who wants a forward who turns the puck over where the opposing team scores a goal and puts the game out of reach? Who wants a guy that when things get tough, leaving skid marks are the only option?

Remember Roenick, you were a washed up laughing stock that did this last year:

And you were lucky enough to have a team take another chance on you. You said all the right things, but you just didn't follow through. Besides, nothing just happened to you, you helped cause it earlier in the season – oh, wait, I'd bet you blame your teammates for what happened too.

What we have in the NHL are old time veterans who just don't have the genetic makeup to play a long time in the league, or didn't take care of themselves when they were healthy enough to do so, or don't have the sense to know when enough is enough still trying to hold on to their last scraps of hair that the comb over just doesn't reach.

If any team is that desperate (read stupid) to pick up a guy like Roenick, that General Manager should be axed when that team gets bounced from the first round or fail to qualify.

It's too bad that these guys don't have another outlet for their "energy", and it's just like seeing the high school football captain who is now 275 pounds drinking 32-ounce pilsners at the local dive wondering where it all went.

As much as I would truly love to have Roenick have to stay because no other team wants him, I would like to still say:

"Don't let the door hit you on your way out."
