I have mixed emotions with the first day of the draft for the Cardinals. 5th pick in the draft was OT Levi Brown as most of you know and I'm not crazy about this. I felt taking Peterson here and then Tony Ugoh in the second round would have been just great. Or if they were going to take Brown I wish they would have found a way to get him a little later and maybe get another pick. Now Brown will be getting paid Leonard Davis type money.

DT Alan Branch out of Michigan was the second round pick for the Cardinals. Also not a huge fan of this pick. Branch would have been fine if he dropped to Arizona at the 38th pick in the draft, but to give up a 4th round pick just to move up to get a guy with a lot of questions didn't thrill me. Branch as I have said before reminds me a lot of Gabe Watson which is good I think. The issue with that is we already have Gabe Watson, I don't think we were in need of another one. But I guess we have 2 big hole stuffing defensive tackles that can rotate in and out of the 3-4, so that could work out great.

Here's the thing with the first 2 selections for the Cardinals. Some fans love these picks some fans hate them. Obviously none of us will know until we see it all play out. The issue I have with these 2 picks is they have such a high potential to bust. Both have questionable work ethics and lack desire so I hear. Thats not something I would want to invest in. The positives are Branch and Brown have loads of size and talent, so hopefully we can see these guys potential. I guess we get to see if Russ Grimm can live up to his expectations and turn Brown into a stud offensive tackle.

In the 3rd round the Cardinals take Buster Davis. THE STEAL OF THE DRAFT! Go back and read some of the past blogs I wrote about Davis. I was praying and hoping the Cardinals would find a way to take him. Watching the TV I was screaming just take Buster Davis! This reminds me of 2003 all over again, leading up to the draft I was saying the best player in this draft is Anquan Boldin, he is the definition of a football player, please Cardinals take Boldin! Then guess what they took him. Same thing, I've been saying Buster Davis is the definition of a football player and praying the Cardinals would take him and they did! This guy will be the Anquan Boldin of the defensive side of the ball. Great Pick! This pick made my draft day!

Draft Grade for Day 1. I was thinking C+ but after Davis was picked I think B+ is probably about right.
