Phoenix Coyotes Looking at Cheveldayoff
Kevin Cheveldayoff is a young General Manager for the Chicago Wolves. His age only may be as significant as the team he might lead next season.
Cheveldayoff is one of the top candidates for the vacant GM position. There are plenty of advantages to hiring this person to run the team.
There are no obvious connections to head coach/minority owner Wayne Gretzky. He is not on the inside as he has slowly built the Wolves up during his tenure.
The Coyotes franchise are looking forward to their “youth movement.” The best way to do that in my estimation is to get someone in here that has no preconceived notions of the past but instead looks only to improve the club to get better. Hiring GMs with past history of other hockey clubs (where they start of strong only to revert back to hiring veteran players at the cost of draft picks) will not work with this hockey team.
Cheveldayoff has a proven track record with the Chicago Wolves. They have been in the AHL playoffs since 2001 and have been at least in the top five teams in the West during that time. Currently, the Wolves are battling for the Calder Cup.
It’s time to give him a shot and promote him. I think he will do excellently here. His work ethic and focus could give the impetus the Coyotes need to be successful.
