It’s no secret, that right now, the Dbacks are down and out. They are on are the brink of losing it. Talk about a screeching halt to a team that looked like a surprise contender about a month ago. Since then, nothing has gone right. Randy Johnson has hit the DL several times. The offense has gone back to a puttering halt and on top of all this, the one solid the first several months of the season, the pitching, has gone as well.
Surprisingly though, this is not the first time this has occurred this season for the Diamondbacks. So far this July, the Dbacks are a nice and fiesty 1-7. But if you remember back all the way to April, you would see a similar 1-7 slide by the Dbacks from April 16-24. The Diamondbacks went on to win 6 straight.
It has just been that type of season. When things are great, they’re GRREEEAAATTTT. When they can’t score a run to save Granny…that’s when the bad things happen.
So what does this team need to do? Can they recover from their second 1-7 slide this season? Who will jolt the team around this time? At the end of the day, can this team pick things up after the all-star break, or are they doomed to the bottom of the NL West?
…My bet. That they’ll recover. Even if we are looking at just barely over a .500 team, with the way the National League is going right now, the Diamondbacks look to be right in the thick of things. Here’s what’s going to happen:
- Mark Reynolds, aka Batman, is going to come back to life and start pounding the ball into Fridays “Front Row.”
- Stephen Drew is going to realize that maybe he should be hitting better than .242 and come out his season long dried salmon slump.
- Fox’s kayaking reporter, Eric Byrnes, will continue his hot ways….increasing his price tag minute by minute.
- Someone will figure out what to do with Conor Jackson (can we get him in the lineup or something?).
- Webby will get back into Cy Young contention….and Randy will find a way to come back and win about 6-7 more games.
- And last but not least, Chris Young will actually catch balls hit to him, and to put some pressure on the rest of the guys, the Dbacks call up Upton.
At the end of the day though, there is really only one thing you can count on from this Dbacks team….they’re unpredictable. And that’s the fun in the whole thing. This team is on the brink of a disaster. Don’t get me wrong. But the season is long and don’t start jumping off the bandwagon just yet.
