Phoenix Coyotes Re-sign Bill Thomas
Forward Bill Thomas re-signs with the Phoenix Coyotes for a one year contract.
Thomas joined the Coyotes towards the end of the 2005-2006 campaign and did rather well. He returned to the club about the same time last season and experienced some tunnel vision on the ice where he got knocked around a little bit because he didn’t keep his head up.
He does have a scoring touch as found here during a contest against the Anaheim Ducks.
With the signing of Thomas, the Coyotes have nine players on the team or in development that are U.S. born. I don’t want to give any energy to the unhelpful issues of nationalistic pride, but the number of players in our development programs and arriving in the NHL and/or its affiliates are starting to rise. Even though many would say that the 2007 NHL Entry Draft was weaker comparatively to other years, having the number one and two picks coming from the U.S. is impressive.
Head Coach Wayne Gretzky and his staff have the unique situation of melding together skaters from many different countries and styles of play. If they can establish an identity and be able to stick to a certain kind of system that benefits the hockey club long term, hopefully the team may be able to play better than most people are expecting.
