Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney was interviewed on their website today.
Some quick notable items:
- Even with the signing of David Aebischer, they are still looking for that top tier goaltender
- Building a championship franchise takes time and he learned to be patient thanks to N.Y. Rangers GM Glen Sather
- He is looking to get the infrastructure in place and then moving forward to improving the hockey club
- He thinks that Ed Jovanovski will have a terrific season (note: despite reports to the contrary from this guy it looks like he is staying)
- Maloney was teammates with John Davidson, president of the St. Louis Blues
- He reminds us that before the Tampa Bay Lightning won the Stanley Cup, their building was half-full (yep, it’s true. I was there and still bought tickets), which compares to our market. Success breeds success; they have to do things right.
Pretty good interview, but I’m still awaiting news on the signing of Keith Ballard.
