UofA Looks For More Than Just Improvement On Field
According to the NCAA the only A that Arizona football players are getting is the one on their helmet. As if it weren’t bad enough that they lost games due to poor performance the University of Arizona football team was the only team in the Pac-10 and in a BCS conference to lose scholarships because of poor academic performance. But don’t fret Cat fans the athletic department has a game plan to improve the players GPAs.
They have decided to hire 70 tutors for their athletes up from 30 last year. That is almost one tutor for the 75 football players on scholarship, see our UofA degree did teach us math. The program has already seen results as the football team posted a 2.37 gpa its best in Stoops tenure as coach.
The best part of the new policy is as follows
Instituted a code of conduct policy to penalize students who fail to attend classes, study halls and tutoring sessions, realizing that could ultimately cost them playing time or their scholarships.
Wow student athletes being held accountable for attending class thats a novel idea. However if the athletic department is serious about raising the gpa and graduation levels maybe they should do what the other schools probably are or at least Dennis Erickson’s program and just pay the 70 tutors to attend class for the athletes.
Hey like our motto was in college…. C’s and D’s get degrees.
