University of Wisconsin Reaps Benefits

For the first time University of Wisconsin history, and for the third time overall in collegiate hockey, three first round draft picks arrive at the same hockey program. Kyle Turris joins his teammates Ryan McDonagh, and Brendan Smith to begin their hockey development.

Kyle Turris, for all of his hoopla coming into the draft, was definitely under the radar screen due to his size. Therefore, the growth of his size from 5′2″ to 5′10″ matches his rise in the scouting ranks and to his future with the Phoenix Coyotes.

"I never really thought about the NHL until the past year. I mean it
has all come up so fast that it's just been really exciting and been a new
experience for my family and I."

Instead of taking the accolades himself, he still thinks about the people that surround him and the teams he worked with up to this point.

"It was pretty neat getting drafted and seeing how much I've changed over the
years, and how much I've learned from the people I've been around, and how lucky
I have been to play with the players I have, so it has been a great past couple
years, and it really makes you think about all the people who helped me along
the way."

These three players, Turris, McDonagh, and Smith, will make a strong University of Wisconsin Badger team even stronger. It will be a fascinating journey watching these future stars of the NHL.
