The Arizona Cardinals cut 21 players yesterday to get the roster down to 53 for the regular season. The most notable cut was that of 3rd round draft pick Buster Davis. Not since Darwin Walker in 2000 has a 3rd round draft pick been cut by Arizona. This was the most disappointing cut in the history of the Cardinals organization. Or maybe it was to me at least. I loved Buster at Florida State, I loved him before the draft and I loved when the Cardinals took him with their 3rd round pick. Davis was at one point projected to be a first round pick and considered to be the best player on the Florida State defense even while Ernie Sims was there. Davis was a recking ball at FSU and led the team in tackles for 3 straight years so he can ovbviously play.

I’m just completely blown away right now. I thought Buster was going to be the next Ronald Mckinnon. I thought he had what it took to be a real great player in this league. I still might be right for all we know. Look at Darwin Walker, he’s had a very successful career and just signed a 5 year 25 million dollar contract with the Chicago Bears. Maybe this will be Buster Davis’s story also. Middle linebacker is probably the toughest position to play as a rookie other than quarterback. It’s not often a MLB comes in and dominates in his first year, It usually takes time.

I watched film of Buster at Florida State and tried to figure out what went wrong. This guy is too good to play like he did in the preseason. Maybe he just needed more reps but I don’t know.

Buster started off slow at FSU and no one thought he could cut it there either. This isn’t the end for Davis, it’s just another bump in road. I like Buster Davis a lot and will be cheering for him no matter where he goes. This guy is better than this and I can’t wait till he shows the Cardinals and everyone else who doubted him that he can play in this league.

Other players released Friday were quarterbacks Shane Boyd and Lang Campbell; linebackers David Holloway and Pago Togafau; center Scott Peters; tight end Alex Shor; running back Steve Baylark; guard Brian Johnson; safety Brandon Keeler; defensive tackle Jonathan Lewis; cornerbacks Michael Adams, Darrell Hunter and Justin Wyatt; tackles Elliot Vallejo, Qasim Mitchell and Brandon Gorin; fullback Roshon Vercher; and wide receivers Leron McCoy, Matt Trannon and Michael Spurlock.
