They Say Hockey Has Issues…

By fanster.com, September 1st, 2007 2:21 PM

I’m not one to bash other professional sports as I do have a passing interest in all of them, but at the same time, I do despise the shots we hockey fans have to endure regarding our particular pasttime.

In fact, seeing this ad campaign that has populated the blogosphere lately has made me smile.

Therefore when I saw this story about Joba Chamberlain, a pitcher for the N.Y. Yankees, who is suspended because he intentionally threw at Boston Red Sox Kevin Youkilis, not once, but twice at his head, it had me thinking about just why people don’t like hockey that much?

You be the judge (I especially like the camera focused on Josh Beckett’s face - I wonder what he’s saying?):

And they say there are issues with hockey having too much violence in its game.

I wouldn’t want a rawhide-covered-tightly-wound-ball-of-twine aimed at my noggin.

Before the reappearance of Chris Simon references and Marty McSorley’s as well, all I’m saying is that all pro sports has these difficult encounters and singling hockey out as the most violent doesn’t make sense to me.
