An Open Letter To D-backs Fans…

By Greg Esposito, October 2nd, 2007 11:13 AM

To Whom It May Concern:

It's time for the excuses to stop D-backs fans. The passive "sure I'm a fan but I'm not going to the game when I can watch it at home" and the "I don't quite buy into this team" don't cut it anymore. It's October and despite the fact that no one picked them to still be playing the Diamondbacks are and have a legitimate chance to go back to the series. So why than are there still, as of last night, 20,000 tickets left for the first two games at Chase Field against the cubs?

I don't want to tell anyone how to spend their hard earned money but Cubs fans sure as hell are going to show up tomorrow and Thursday and they will be loud. (Don't believe me? These are the same fans who have named one of their kids Wrigley Fields. I don't see anyone rushing to name their kid Chase Fields here in Arizona. But I digress) I don't know about you but I'm not looking forward to having a mini Rigleyville in downtown Phoenix for two days. If the fans don't step it up big time the snakes and Arizona are going to be embarrassed on national television as the chants of "Lets go Dbacks" are drown out by "Lets go Cubbies."

It's time to graduate from a lazy western two bit sports town and to play with the big boys. Want to be taken seriously as a sports town? Than actually support the D-backs be loud and give them a home field advantage. If you are still angry about Gonzo leaving, or purple and teal being shown the door get over it. Colors and individual players don't make an organization and don't dictate fandom. Hell, wear your purple and teal to the game, just show up. Root for your new D-backs who will be around for much longer then Gonzo was. Get your signs ready and root for Chris Young, Justin Upton and Stephen Drew.

The bandwagon is leaving the station right now and if you aren't on than don't bother trying to get on. Support this team with pride and step up big time. If you don't than be ready to still be considered a second rate sports town………and rightly so.

Sincerely,
AzSportsHub

Hey, dude, if I had the money I’d be there, but currently I don’t have a job. Don’t hate on the folks that can’t afford to come. I’ve ridden the DBacks bandwagon since I came to town in 98, whether they lived or died. I left behind the DODGERS. I came from LA. I’ve been a fan all this time, I’m just a poor one now.
In 2001 my coworkers at the time pooled their money and gave me a playoff ticket for my birthday, and the DBacks gave me a World Series title. I was, and am, grateful.
I just don’t have the money for a seat. Wanna take me on as a charity case? Get me tickets to every home game and I will plant my butt in the seats and yell my head off.
