There's No Need To Fear The Underdogs Are Here

That's right folks, once again your Arizona Diamondbacks are underdogs, to a team that they beat out for their division and finished with a better record than. Oh and by the way D-backs fans once again are the underdogs and being called to the mat by every media outlet out there. Some say that D-backs fans and the city of Phoenix just aren't excited enough for the match up and that the fans are "a freaking joke". Others state that "Arizona Doesn't Care About Baseball" . Even the Denver post got in on the action calling Diamondbacks fans out for not selling out the games, putting World Series tickets on sale, and claiming that the Backs didn't have a shot to beat the Rockies.

Just like in the Cubs series no one is picking the D-backs and no one believes in the fan base here in Arizona. Well don't worry that's where both the team and the fans like to be. Every step of the way this team has reveled in the underdog role performing best when no one expected anything of them so why should it stop now? Playing the Rockies in the NLCS was probably the best thing for this team. Why you ask? Because by playing the Rockies the D-backs aren't the Cinderella story. They aren't the main focus and they aren't a big deal. They and their run don't dominate the headlines like Colorado and it means they can continue with their laid back attitude and say "hey no one believes in us except for the 25 guys in this clubhouse". It breeds team work and togetherness and that's what this team has run on all year.

As for the fans, look at the Cubs series. A stadium that could have become a second Wrigley field was loud and proud in Sedona red. Cubs fans who just a few weeks earlier dominated the stadium were background noise to the ruckus crowd of D-back supporters. Rockies fans are so livid about their teams run because they have never seen good baseball in the Mile High city. Even the Rockies fans weren't attending games until their big run at the end of the season. They have had success in every other sport but this is the first true taste of anything when it comes to baseball but when it comes down to it Chase Field once again will transform from the mild mannered regular season ballpark into the Snake Pit.

As for the play on the field the percentages are in the Diamondbacks favor. A team that has won 17 of 18 games is bound to lose. Baseball is all about ebs and flows and streaks. People will site Brandon Webb's poor performance or high ERA against the Rockies but something must be wrong with their short term memory. That one lose they have in the last 18 came to Webb and the D-backs to solidify their spot in the playoffs. Also the Rockies hot bats have been off for 3 days. In a game of rhythm and superstition it might just mean those bats have cooled off a bit because of the lay off.

So keep the faith and get ready for the same lack of respect for the team and the fan base come the World Series. Anybody, Anytime. The Rockies and now!
