You can’t reach the Sun with a Rocket! Phoenix beat Houston 115-105

Houston, without Tracy McGrady for the second night in a row, was no match for the sharp shooting Suns.

The Suns were spectacular, there’s not much to add, really: full speed, open shots, fast breaks…the usual great collection of Suns plays except for too many turnovers (25). Every starter scored at least 18 points on the night: Nash (19 points, 15 assists), Marion (18 points, 11 rebounds), Hill (18 points on 8-14 shooting), Barbosa (21 points, 4-of-6 from 3-point) once again starting for Raja and Stoudemire (21 points, 13 rebounds on 8-of-8 from the field). Shawn Marion had possibly the play of the night with a running hook at the end of the 3rd quarter, right at the buzzer. Shawn had a nice comment on the Arizona Republic “All I can say is, da-na-na, na-na-na. SportsCenter on that play, baby,”.

Phoenix held large leads throughout the first half then Houston tried to come back in the 3rd quarter behind a series of baskets by Yao Ming who had a poor game anyway (4-of-17 form the field for a total of 12 points). Only rookie Luis Scola (20 points, 11 rebounds) - don’t forget the guy from Argentina played a few years with Tau Vitoria, one of the best team in the Spanish League and Euroleague - and Mike James (17 points) tried to keep the Rockets in the game.

Watching the game you get the sense the Suns are getting there, they might have a night off every now and then (those happen anyway on an 82-game schedule) but once they start running, it’s not gonna be easy to stop them. Phoenix is now 8-2 on top of the Pacific division and with the second best record (along with the Mavs) in the West trailing only New Orleans’ 9-2 record.

The Suns will now play the Kings on back to back nights with the first game on Tuesday night (8 PM) in Sacramento.

Yours truly, Steve Fan
