Suns hold on for 100-98 win in Sacramento.
(Photo: Rocky Widner/NBAE Photos) The Suns were leading by as much as 19 points with 2:20 left in the 3rd quarter, as everything seemed rolling towards an easy win, when the Kings came back and with 3:07 left in the fourth tied the game at 94 on Ron Artest’s jump shot (31 points for Artest in the contest).
Tied, with a little more than two minutes to go Phoenix turned to Amaré and STAT delivered by scoring all of the final 6 points in the Suns game (including 4 free throws in a row) as they held on for a 100-98 win in Sacramento.
The game seemed an easy one, especially after three quarters, but the Suns had all kind of difficulties to score in the final quarter shooting just and scoring only 14 points in the last 12 minutes.
Stoudemire led the way with 26 points, 13 rebounds and 4 block shots. Amaré blocked John Salmons’game-winning three-point attempt with 1.6 seconds left to seal the win.
Barbosa added 22 on just 8-of-20 shooting (2-8 from 3 point), Marion had a very quite game, grabbing 13 rebounds but scoring only 2 points on just 5 shots. Steve Nash dished 14 assists while scoring 12 points on 5-of-12 from the field.
Overall it wasn’t a great game, nor a good performance by the Suns, but they were able to hold off the Kings with some key plays in the end to improve their record to a very good 9-2. It’s never easy once the game is tied after leading by 19.
The Kings will have a chance for a rematch as early as tonight, as the two teams will face each other again in Phoenix (7:00 PM).
