Suns score 80 in the first half, beat Kings 127-111
(AP Photo/Paul Connors) While Tuesday night it took the Suns 48 minutes and some big plays late in the game to beat the Kings it was defintely a different story on Wednesday. The Suns scored an NBA season high 47 points in the first quarter, 80 in the first half while the Kings, playing without its two best players (Bibby and Artest) never had a chance. In the end Phoenix won 127-111 recording the seventh straight win and improving to 9-2 on the year.
How great was the Suns’ offense? How about 33 assists (15 by Nash, 6 each by Marion and Banks) and 7 turnovers, 10-of-24 (41.7%) from 3 point range and 53.3% overall, or in other words, those of Mike D’Antoni “The first quarter was unbelievable, just the way we shot and moved the ball”.
Marion led the Suns with 25, Barbosa and Nash had 18 points each while Hill added 15 and Stoudemire 13 and finally the starters had a chance to rest in the second half.
Enyoing leads of 30 points twice during the game and almost always with a solid 20-point advantage Coach D’Antoni emptied the bench as eleven players actually played and scored for the Suns including 10 points by Alando Tucker and 5 by DJ Strawberry (both career high).
It was just perfect ! There’s not really much to say. Once the Suns start running and shooting like that, they just can’t be denied, not just by the Kings, by anyone in this League.
The Suns’ show will be back on Friday night (7 PM) at US Airways Center vs the Clippers.
