STAT’s 42 lead Suns past Pacers 121-117

12/5/07 2:25 AM

Amare v. Pacers(Ron Hoskins/NBAE Photos) The Suns scored the final 8 points in the game to hold off a possible Pacers comeback. Phoenix 8-0 run in the last 71 seconds of the game sealed the win.

Phoenix played some poor defense during the game but did what was needed to win, making plays in the end, in a game they could have put away much earlier. Nash and STAT made key plays in the final seconds to secure the win as he Suns led for much of the game but almost failed to bring home the game.

“We had a game that we could’ve possibly put to rest almost at halftime, and all of a sudden we’re losing by four or five there at the end,” Suns guard Steve Nash said.

Amaré Stoudemire scored a season-high 42 points to lead the Suns past the Pacers Tuesday Night 121-117 for the third straight win, second consecutive on the road trip, as Phoenix improved to 14-4 on the year. The Suns center shot 15-of-24 from the field (12-of-13 from the free-throw line) added 13 rebounds to lead the way. Nash scored 18, finally on a good shooting night (6-for-9) after a couple of bad outings, grabbed 6 boards but above all dished 17 assists.

All the Suns starters scored in double figures as Hill (16 points), Marion (14) and Bell (17) contributed to the win. Not much form the bench as Barbosa scored just 4 points on 1-for-8 from the field while Diaw had just 2.

For the Pacers Tinsley had 19 with 12 assists and Jermaine O’Neil scored 30 despite playing with pain in his right shoulder that has been bothering the Pacers center for the last few games.

No time to rest as the Suns are on to Canada where they’ll play the Raptors tonight (5PM). Not sure which Raptors team they’ll face as both Andrea Bargnani and Chris Bosh should be out of the game with injuries. A win in Toronto would assure the Suns a winning road trip before the last couple of stops in DC and Minneapolis.
