Suns score 136 to beat Raptors in Toronto
(AP Photo/The Canadian Press, Frank Gunn) 259 points, 182 shots, Phoenix shot 58.9 percent from the field (46.4% from 3-point), Toronto 55.4 percent (62.5% from 3-point), 22 players scored at least a point, including 12 in double figures, all of that while the Raptors missed their two best players Bargnani and Bosh…you get the idea. Did I mention Coach D’Antoni even put D.J. Strawberry in the game? Well, he did for almost two minutes and DJ even scored two.
It was all about playing offense and no one can play that kind of game with the Suns and hope to win, that’s why in the end Phoenix beat Toronto 136-123 for the fourth consecutive win and improved its season record to 15-4. Toronto was trailing by just 5 points at the half but had no answer in the third when the Suns scored 45 points in the third quarter.
Barbosa scored 35 points, Stoudemire added 25, Hill 17…an so on. Steve Nash had a season-high 18 assists playing in Canada for the first (an only) time this season and getting a very warm welcome. “For me, it’s always nice to win in Canada,” Nash said to AP.
The Raptors got 27 points form TJ Ford, coming back after missing a few games with injury, and 22 from the excellent Anthony Parker. Not enough anyway.
The Suns offense machine was just too good, they just took quick and open shots all night long, flying on fastbreak and hitting from everywhere on the court.
The Suns had 38 assists in the game which is a clear indication of the way they’re passing the ball while they made just 10 fouls (total) in 48 minutes….including NO fouls by STAT who was of course playing against a team missing its two best players inside, possibly three if you count long term absent Josè Garbajosa. Defense was not much of a factor in the game on both sides.
Suns will now play game four of the Eastern trip (so far so good) in Washington on Friday night (5 PM).
