Suns get cold in second half, lose to Minnesota 100-93
(AP Photo/A.J. Olmscheid) Is this a strange game or what? During the course of an 82-game season every now and then a 2-15 team happens to beat a 16-3 opponents. That’s what happened last Saturday night at the Target Center in Minneapolis as the Timberwolves beat the Suns 100-93.
Phoenix scored a season low 93 points ending a streak of five games with over 100 points. The Suns are 0-4 when they’re held under the century mark. The fourth period was particularly awful with the Suns and the T-Wolves combining for 26 points (13 each). Phoenix shot 13-of-44 in the second half.
Nash had 14 points for the Suns (and 15 assists), Marion 18, Barbosa 17 while Stoudemire added 16 points with just 5 rebounds (5 fouls and 4 turnovers on a bad night for STAT).
A lot of reasons could be provided to explain the poor performance by the Suns: the final game - fifth in 7 days - of a lengthy road trip, the occasional bad shooting night, a couple of players having career nights (A. Jefferson 32 points and 20 rebounds, Marco Jaric 19 points) and so on.
This game reminded a bit of the Nov. 7th loss in Atlanta as the Hawks, like the T-Wolves are a young, athletic team the Suns seems to suffer a bit. Phoenix was outrebounded 55-33 in the game while Minnesota grabbed 19 offensive boards, way too much to win a NBA game.
Phoenix dropped the last game of a very positive Eastern road trip (4-1) and at 16-5 is sitting on top of the Pac5. The Suns will now face Miami at home on Monday night (7 PM).
