The Heat is on! Suns lose to Miami 117-113

The Suns (16-6) lost their second straight game, 117-113 to the 6-15 Miami Heat after losing to the worst team in the NBA last Saturday, 3-15 Minnesota.

Phoenix trailed all night long (40-29 after the first quarter) and couldn’t come back even when the offense started playing well late in the game and finally making shots. Suns defense was just awful the whole game and allowed Miami to hold off any comeback attempt.

Led by D. Wade (31 points) and three players with double doubles, Haslem (21 points, 12 rebounds), Wright (16, 12) and Shaq (18, 11) the Heat were very much in control throughout the game.

The third quarter was especially painful to watch as the Suns scored just 17 points. Phoenix had 7 players scoring 11 or more points in the game (19 each for Bell, Marion, Hill and Stoudemire) while Steve Nash, on a 4-for-13 shooting night, dished 14 assists.

Comments on the game have been very critical of the Suns’ performance. While it could be acceptable losing a game to Miami - an aging team, in a difficult period, but still with some great talent - the way the game was played by the Suns was not.

According to the Arizona Republic the night ended on a long postgame staff meeting between coach D’Antoni, GM Steve Kerr and the Owner Robert Sarver.

The Suns looked a bit tired but most of all not really in the game mentally.”There wasn’t a sense of urgency” Nash said.

Proof is the fact the Heat out rebounded the Suns 46-29. This is becoming a bit alarming as the Suns seems to be losing a few games “in the paint”, and have been out rebounded badly during 4 of the 5 losses this season. Just check my blog for more on this issue.

Let’s hope the Suns will be able to bounce back soon and regain focus for the toughest 3-game stretch of the year so far with Utah (at home), New Orleans, San Antonio and Dallas (on the road) coming in the next nine days.

Yours truly, Steve Fan
