Hornets beat Suns 101-98 as Paul edges Nash in the Big Easy

nashvshornets.jpg(AP Photo/Alex Brandon) A couple of days ago, before facing three of the best point guards in the game on consecutive games (Utah, New Orleans and San Antonio), Steve Nash expressed his great appreciation for Deron Williams and Chris Paul on ESPN Weekend Dime.

Both Chris and Deron are great players of course but Paul could have chosen a different night to prove it, as he led the Hornets to a 101-98 win over the Suns in the Big Easy on Friday night. Paul (21 points and 10 assits) outplayed Nash (12 points, 7 assists) in the Hornets win.
While being a worse shooter than Nash, Paul is quite similar to our great PG: he can drive to the hoop, is a terrific penetrator and can pass the ball very well while in the air. Chris is a real pleasure to watch for a basketball lover and a future All-Star.

It’s a fact the Suns lose games when they are held under 100 points and are outrebounded, since both situations happened last night a loss was no big surprise. It was a good game of basketball anyway, as both teams shot well and passed the ball around effectively.

The Suns had all the starters, plus Barbosa, in double figures led by Leandro’s 19 points in 22 minutes and Hill and Bell at 17 each.
Marion had a chance to win the game with 2 seconds left but missed on a tough running floater as the Suns tried to come back in the end.

The Hornets, led by the above mentioned Paul had 21 points from Mo’ Peterson and a great game by Chandler (14 points, 18 rebounds including 8 on offense), but the key to the game was the way they shot the ball from 3-point, 12-of-23 including a couple of key baskets.

New Orleans is a very good team and one of the reasons - along with Boston, Detroit and Orlando - the East is much better than it used to be just a year ago.

The Suns will now head to San Antonio, for the first time this season, for the first time since THAT Playoffs series.

Tim Duncan should be back in the lineup as he already played 20 minutes yesterday in Denver. We can expect the usual battle and we’ll finally have a chance to see how this Suns team can match up with the NBA Champs.
Tune in Monday night (6:30 PM) on My45 and NBA TV.

Yours truly, Steve Fan
