Hill leads Suns past Duncan and the Spurs 100-95

12/18/07 5:54 AM

Hill v. the Spurts(AP Photo/Eric Gay) Grant Hill scored 22 points (8-of-12 from the field) to lead the Suns past the Spurs 100-95 for their first home loss of the year. Grant was signed to make a difference in this kind of games (NBA Champs, on the road, 23 lead changes, 43 fouls) and he delivered on the occasion.

Phoenix is now 18-7 tied with San Antonio for most wins in the West.

“Good game for both teams it was very spirited and a good defensive battle. We played hard and they did the same thing, it was a great game.” As Coach D’Antoni declared after the game.

It was also the first occasion to check if the Suns had found a way to stop Tim Duncan, be it with Stoudemire, Diaw or Skinner off the bench. They did not, I am afraid, as Duncan led the Spurs with 36 points and 17 rebounds and playing a great game overall.

The Suns were outrebounded once again (49-38) in what is becoming an alarming trend. Fortunately, this time Phoenix won the game.

The Spurs, without Parker (ankle problem for Tony), were able to contain Nash during the first half. Steve was held scoreless in the 24 minutes of the game but was instrumental late in the third, during the 15-4 run that decided the game, as he led the Suns to victory. Nash finished with 10 points and 10 assists.

Leandro Barbosa had a very good game as well, scoring 18 off the bench and giving the needed boost on offense in the decisive third quarter.

It’s always a bit special when you beat the Spurs as this is becoming one of the fiercest rivalry in the NBA. The game was far from your classic regular season contest as both teams battled it out all night long.

The Suns will stay in Texas to face the Mavs on Wednesday night (6:30 PM). Dallas is 11-2 at home and riding a 3-game winning streak. It should be another very interesting game.
