The First Party in Miami

The first party was called "Rocking the Gridiron"! Here is where being a writer has its benefits! I was able to score 4 media passes, which got us into the VIP celebrity party that started at 7:00pm. This was a great way to start the weekend, as it was OPEN BAR!!!!

These tickets were going for $750 each! Needless to say, we hit the bar pretty hard and started drinking everything in site, the crowd was small because the general public didn't have access until 10:00pm.

The "Ickey Shuffle"
The highlight of the night was when my buddy went up to a former player and asked if he was Ricky Wiggins. He got the name Ricky Wiggins by a couple of guys who just got his autograph. So when he asked if he was Ricky Williams, the guys said, "No man, I'm not Ricky Wiggins, I'm Ickey Woods!" Ickey played for the Cincinnati Bengals and coined the "Ickey Shuffle" after he scored a touchdown. Ickey was standing talking to Karl Mecklenburg. Karl was a former linebacker for the Denver Broncos.

When they looked at my buddy Don funny for calling him Ricky Wiggins, I was standing behind him yelling, "Kick the shit out of him!" Mecklenburg was one big bass ass linebacker, so he could have breathed on us and it would have knocked us out!

So after Don made the mistake I went over to Karl and we started to talk. During the conversation, he let me hold his 1977 AFC Championship Ring. The ring was huge, covered with diamonds and was probably worth more than I make in a year.

Where to spend your party money
When the doors opened to the public at 10:00pm, there were only about 100 people that showed up. I guess when you are charging $450 a ticket you have to pick and chose what parties you should attend.

Most of the parties in Miami were going for well over $750. I tell you where to spend the money a little bit later. So we hung out at this party until about 3:00am. When we got back to "the pit" three of us decided to hit one more bar, nothing like a nightcap at 3:00am.

So we walked down the street and found a bar that was open until 6:00am. After one last beer, Denny's always sounds like a good idea and there just happened to be one across the street from "the pit".
