Keepin the Joker Contained - Wild Preview
Hmmm… last time we met we were just gettin our legs under us in understanding that we can compete with the best.
So we enter this contest with confidence in the net guardian, a really gelled blueline and a scoring committee that can match any set of shooters in the NHL (on any given night).
But the Wild have a joker in their midst. A healthy Gabby can make all bets null and void. The key to this game won’t be slippin past a recovering Backstrum in the net ( the team that ate Brodeur’s lunch is a lot less worried about findin cookis in Backstrum’s kitchen) nor will it be keepin away from the Boogeyman (we won’t start no static so there shouldn’t be no static… Ballard! don’t taunt the Boogeyman!) if Boogaard does start anything it will be very obvious to the refs who went lookin for trouble and we could really use a 5 minute PP. It will be a simple game of containment and fighting speed w/ speed.
Sjo and TQ and the blue will have to play Gabby like a second skin all night long. One stride and that boy is a thousand miles away son. We didn’t let him have much last game (he took one anyway but 1 is better than the 5 he shoved down the Rangers throats) and I hope we give him even less room to roam in this match. The rest of the Wild are more evenly matched, dangerous to be sure but much more matchable per shift.
As to matching speed for speed, Enver Lisin may get to see some ice time on Thursday night. That kid has wheels to spare and if his numbers in SA are any indication, Envy has found out where the net is and can get there at will (he also seems to have found out what defense means). Between Sjo and Enver there is a whole lotta motor purrin under the Coyote hood and they just might make the difference this time. Of course the rest of the scoring committe just might make them a moot point. Vbrat and the blueline are due (Z finally finding his wrister could make this game a whole lot more interesting).
**WDYT? - TGO has not thrown Ziggy out on the ice in quite a few games. Now calling up Lisin makes it even more challenging for Zig to break back in. With the Yotie pups givin up fewer and fewer PPs, the PK shut down guys are going to have to find something else to contribute to the mix if they want to get some TOI… or even get into the game. (this fact added to the ridin the hot lines metality means a tough road to hoe for Zig and possibly Wellie to get back into the line up)**

EDIT: oh oh! Dallas just ran through the Wild like a bad bean burrito… hope they don’t recover. But more than likely they are so embarassed they will try to take it out on us. Look for a very peeved Demitra and a quick lil snake named Voros to try to make up for this 8 - 3 Dallas massacre.
