Wings N Things
Well poop! We did it again. Found a way to lose. We found a way to get ahead of the Ded again… and then we found a way to give the game right back to them.
I’m actually not too disappointed. It was a great game. Chances all around, hustle for the most part by everybody, pretty good net minding and we hung with what is possibly the best team in the NHL (right now) for 55 minutes.
Dats is simply sick! The guy has more moves than a sidewinder on a slip n slide. He creates things out of nothing every time he hits the ice. If it hadn’t been for the diligence and smarts of our hustling D that boy woulda handed us our helmets several times over.
We got some fairly good shots this game (34 of them with many more ‘quality’ shots than last game). We were even on the hitting at 19 for each team. Our face offs were abysmal at only 41%. And of course we failed to capitalize on the PPs goin 0 - 4 as usual. But at least this time we had some energy and chances on a few of them, unlike last game.
Highlights of the evening: Jovo finally getting a goal! I should talk bad about him more often it seems. Maybe now that he copped his 100th goal we will see more tallies from him. Still pretty impressed with Lisin’s game. And of course Vbrat! Drawing the penalty shot was awesome. (In 16 years of hockey I had NEVER seen a live penalty shot!) And man was it pretty. Vrbata-boom, Vrbata-bing indeed! Ozzie bit on that forhand fake like a Krispy Kreme and Vbrat gave him a sweet, high back hand. (and gave us the lead which also made me very happy)
Then the refs decided to even up the penalties a bit. (no the refs weren’t horrible) but man those penalties were sure weak. Well the Bally one was deserved but the Doaner one was just silly as Ozzie was reachin out when Doan floated by (Ozzie was barely brushed). But oh well… can’t be a fan without bitchin at least once about the officiating.
The rest of the game was pretty even through til the last 5 minutes of the third. Thats when the Wings dug down into that ‘other’ gear they have and momentum and the tenor of the game swung permanently over to their side. Datsyuk decided he’d had enough of his coverage and simply dusted our boys on his way to see Bryz! about the go ahead goal. And try as hard as we did we couldn’t get it back. (I really thought we might for a few minutes) but then we pulled Bryz (with only one D man on the ice…and that D man was Jovo) I knew the empty netter was comin. Soory but its true… all snipers and only Jovo is sooo not pretty. Need at least one hustler (Niko?) or another D with a big shot (DMo?) out there when you are playin a team like the Ded.
Final score 4 - 2. Again we cut down the score and get closer to a solution. We get one more shot at these boys and do pretty well against them on their turf.

Guest from the radio show was the big PM. Mueller is as sweet as they come. Gettin used to his rockstar status. Like many of the rookies this season (the Yotes finally set up some support for the baby Yotes) Mules lives with Maloney and family while he finds his feet here in Phoenix. I hope they found a good place for Enver to stay cuz he probably misses Tordjman (who had taken him under his wing in SA).
