Suns drop 20 3-pointers on the Nuggets in a 137-115 win

01/8/08 1:17 AM

Marion v. Denver(AP Photo/Matt York) The Suns dropped 46 points on the Nuggets in the first quarter, 78 in the first half en route to a 137-115 win.

Phoenix shot 53.8 percent from the field (50-93) and made 20 3-pointers (yes, twenty, which is one shy of the NBA record).
It was like the 2008 All-Star Game a month earlier.

Marion led the Suns with 27 points, Shawn nailed 5 3-pointers and grabbed 14 rebounds. Stoudemire (back after missing Sunday’s practice) added 20 points and 10 boards, Grant Hill had 20 points as well while Marcus Banks, finally back in the rotation, scored 23 points with an almost perfect 7-of-8 from 3-point range.

Steve Nash scored 13 points and added 10 assists. According to ESPN.com Steve’s tenth consecutive game with at least ten assists and a 3-pointer made ties Magic Johnson for the second such streak in the history of the NBA, with the record at 13 held by Michael Adams.

The game’s result was never in doubt, as the Nuggets were down by ten after four minutes of play in the first period and never really came close to the Suns.

Iverson scored 32 points for the Nuggets and Melo added 20 but Denver really was nothing more than a painful spectator on the night as the Suns just turned their engine on.

The Suns reacted very well to the loss vs the Hornets and according to Nash, GM Steve Kerr even spoke to the team before the game giving the players some extra motivation, “But you can’t expect Steve to make a Knute Rockne everyday,” added Nash. I guess the Suns could try to win one for the Gipper, anytime now….

Coach D’Antoni was very confident as well after the game, “I thought we turned the corner four of five games ago. I thought we’re coming, we’re coming”

The Suns (24-10) will complete the 4-game home stand against the Pacers on Wednesday night (7 PM) before playing the Jazz on the road the day after.
