Suns (29-12) dominate Nets at home 116-92
(AP Photo/Paul Connors) The Suns started very well off the blocks, outscored the Nets 35-20 in the first quarter and never looked back en route to a convincing 116-92 win.
The Suns dominated the game, shooting 47.9% (46-for-96) and 41.4% (12-for-29) from 3-point and outerbounding New Jersey 48-38. Of course the Nets lack a dominant front line but grabbed just 5 offensive boards in the game.
Boris Diaw led the Suns with a very inspired all around performance (14 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and a plus 21 in +/-). Starting has had a very positive effect on Boris, who have been the player we all expected since replacing Grant Hill in the first five.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the Suns seems to put more energy and a better attitude on the court when Diaw and Bell have good games. Raja scored 20 points (5-of-10 from 3-point range) and played the usual good defense.
Stoudemire led all scorers with 28 points on 11-for-16 shooting. In case you didn’t notice, despite the usual suspicious defense, AmarĂ© is posting some great number (22.5 PPG, 9.2 RPG) on the year.
One final note on the Suns, D.J. Strawberry is becoming a solid part of the rotation and played over 21 minutes. D.J. has the athleticism to play at guard and small forward as well, can defend and is a decent ouside shooter. Let’s see what happens to D.J.’s playing time when Grant Hill comes back in a few days.
New Jersey got 24 points from Richard Jefferson, only 9 and 8 assists from Jason Kidd while Vince Carter was held to just 10 points on 4-for-13 shooting.
The Suns (29-12), now on a 3-game winning streak and with the best record in West, will begin a 4-game Midwest trip in Milwaukee on Tuesday night (6 PM).
The best game of the road trip should a Friday night date with LeBron and the Cavs at the Q.
