Toss-up. Shaq will probably replace Shawm Marion’s rebounding and defense. But what does it all depend on? O’Neal needs to lose weight immediately. He should get down to 300–he can lose 25 in two months if he wants to. If he doesn’t, he might be slower than Kurt Thomas.
There were problems with Shawn Marion. Whoever was on the radio show with Kevin Ray (sounded like Tom Chambers, but probably wasn’t) pointed out that Shawn Marion is a horrible playoff performer. And he could never work well on the court with Amare Stoudemire, like A.C. Green worked well with Charles Broccoli. Stoudemire and Marion didn’t rebound together. I always remember one Suns-Fakers playoff game from 2007 where they both tried to get a rebound, then awkwardly deferred to each other (”you take it, no you take it) until Stat finally took it.

I heard Steve Kerr on KTAR this morning discussing the trade. The interesting part is that he said that Shaq only has 12% body fat on him. Supposedly he is in great shape outside that he has flexibility problems in his legs and knees.
The Phoenix Suns training staff felt that they can improve his flexibility based on the results they have had with Steve Nash, Amare(after his knee surgery) and Grant Hill.
If they really can get Shaq into game shape and more flexible than before, the Suns might just be in business.
