Baron and “the Man” lead Warriors past Suns 120-118
(AP Photo/Marcio Jose Sanchez) Monta Ellis - “He’s the man right now” according to S. Jackson - scored 37 points and Baron Davis added 27 and made all the key plays in the end as the Warriors beat the Suns 120-118 in a very entertaining game (44 lead changes!) last night in the Bay.
The Suns had four players scoring more then 20 points led by Stoudemire with 29 points (and 13 rebounds). Grand Hill scored 26 points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds, Barbosa scored 25 points and Nash recorded 20 points and the “average” 12 assists.
When the Suns play the Warriors it is generally a very close game, often to the buzzer, and decided by shooting percentuage and turnovers.
Phoenix shot 51.7% from the field (45-for-87) while Golden State was 52-for-96 (54.2%) from the field. The Suns also had 9 more turnovers (19 to 11).
The Suns had a chance to tie the game on a couple of free throws of which Stoudemire missed one and on the final second tried to win the game on Barbosa’s missed 3-pointer.
“I thought we played pretty well. It was a great game and we had our chance to win”, (D’Antoni) but we didn’t Coach proving once again why the Suns tried to shake thing off by trading for Shaq as this team keeps losing to the “playoffs teams” in the Western Conference.
The Warriors were able to hold on to the game because down the stretch Baron Davis made three consecutive baskets to seal the win.
Both teams will take plenty of chances and will try to take quick shots. Both teams have recentelt signed big men since in the playoffs everyone knows that size will indeed matter. On this night both Shaq and Webber were watching the game in street clothes.
Shaq should make his Suns debut in a week time, after the All-Star game, probably against the Lakers on Februrary 20th. Quite an interesting circumstance to make a debut meeting an “old friend” like Kobe.
“What a game. What a game. I’m ready for a break and I think everybody else is too” Nelson said after the game, well the Suns (36-16) have to play one more game before a couple of days off, and what a game, as the Mavs come to town tonight (8:30 PM on TNT).
