Kobe ruins Shaq’s Suns debut. LA wins 130-124

<a href="/tag/shaq" class="kblinker" title="More about shaq »">Shaq</a> v. LA’ height=”250″/></a>(<em>AP Photo/Ross D. Franklin</em>) Kobe and Lakers ruined Shaq’s debut in a Suns uniform with a <a href="http://www.nba.com/games/20080220/LALPHX/boxscore.html">130-124</a> win at the US Airways Center last night.</p> <p>With the win LA also tied the Suns for the Division lead at 37-17.</p> <p>The line of Shaq’s debut as a member of the Suns: 15 points (6-for-9 from the field and 9 in the fourth quarter), 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocked shots and a huge inside presence. Shaq also tried to kill a teammate (Raja Bell with an elbow) and an official while diving for the ball in the third quarter. </p> <p>I have to admit O’Neal looked quite in shape and was running quite well all night long. I think he’ll need at least a couple more weeks to adapt to the new team: “<em>I felt pretty good – I would have liked to have gotten a win, but a couple of times I didn’t know what was going on out there</em>” </p> <p>The Suns finally outrebounded the Lakers, 46-to-33, and grabbed a noteworthy 16 on offense. </p> <p>If last night is any indication, Stoudemire will eventually be the one getting the best of playing alongside Shaq. STAT scored a team-high 37 points and 15 rebounds while Steve Nash scored 26 points and dished 8 assists. </p> <p><strong>The shift of the Suns’ center of mass will take time to be completed and won’t be easy</strong>. </p> <p>A team build to play the outside game will now have the best inside combination in the league, possibly one unseen since the era of Duncan and Robinson back with the Spurs.</p> <p>Some of you might have noticed that the bad guys in San Antonio just traded for former Suns Kurt Thomas. </p> <p>It was a high-energy, playoff like game, one that once again the Suns lost. </p> <p>Kobe led the Lakers with 41 points (16-of-25 shooting) and really dominated the game, driving to the basket all night. Paul Gasol scored 29 points while Lamar Odom added 22 for the Los Angeles team that shot an excellent 56.5 percent (52-for-92) from the field. </p> <p>The Suns will now face the NBA-best 41-11 Celtics on Friday night (8:30 PM) and a chance to see Kevin Garnett play in Phoenix (for the wrong team, I am afraid).</p> <p>Yours truly, Steve Fan (now officially Diesel-powered) </p> <!-- sphereit end --> <br /> <p><em>Join the discussion at <a href="/forum">The Locker Room Forum.
