Dan Haren made an auspicious debut in Diamondbacks uniform Saturday, giving up one run, on 5 hits, while striking out 4, in two innings against the White Sox. Max Scherzer, the D’Backs first round pick in the 2006 draft, followed up with 1 run on 1 hit, a homer by Joe Crede. We might see him in the majors later this year, even before September 1st, IF he does well in the minors and the D’Backs need pitching help.
Stephen Drew came back from wisdom tooth extraction and got an RBI. Eric Byrnes did not play. Emilio Bonifacio, considered the fastest guy in the D’Backs organization, stretched two singles into a double and also hit a triple.
The D’Backs lost 12-8.
On Sunday, Chris Burke, Trot Nixon and Chris Snyder hit homers in the Diamondbacks split squad victory, 12-5, over the White Sox at Tucson Electric Park.
Starter Doug Davis pitched two scoreless innings. Pitcher Micah Owings, batting 8th, was the DH. He singled in 5 trips to the plate and scored a run. Eric Byrnes singled once in 4 trips to the plate.
