Chris Young broke an 0-8 streak with a solo homer in the D’Backs 7-5 loss to Colorado.
Micah Owings was scheduled to start but was scratched when he complained of general arm soreness. It’s not thought to be serious. Dustin Nippert got the start and pitched a shaky two innings. He gave up a 3-run homer to Brad Hawpe. This spring all snake eyes are on Randy Johnson’s back, but it is Micah Owings who comes up sore in early spring, Hmm.
Eric Byrnes did not play. I know it’s very early and you’ve got to get the prospects in, but I can’t help but notice that Byrnesie hasn’t played against the Rockies. For sure the Rockies would harangue him after he batted .176 in the NLCS and made that weak last out of the series. But c’mon, BoMel, Byrnesie can take it. The Rockies can’t be any worse than the fans in the left field bleachers in San Francisco, who keep reminding him that he’s no Barry Bonds…or Marvin Benard. He’s got to face the Rockies eventually.
Byrnes is expected to be in the lineup tomorrow when Brandon Webb takes the mound for his second spring outing. The Diamondbacks will face the Texas Rangers in Surprise, AZ, which is in the Phoenix area.
