Eric Byrnes got off the schneid with his first RBI, but the D’Backs lost to the Padres in a split-squad game, 6-3.
This game was notable for the fact that it started with the probable Opening Day lineup for the Diamondbacks with the exception of Doug Davis in place of scheduled Opening Day starter, Brandon Webb.
The Padres grabbed the lead in the quickest way possible; lead-off hitter and former Diamondback Scott Hairston put Davis’ first offering over the fence. He later hit a two-run double off Davis.
Byrnesie, batting cleanup, singled in a run in the fourth; he stole second and was driven in by Chris Snyder’s single. That was all for Byrnesie, who was 1-2 on the day. His spot in the batting order was subsequently used by a parade of pitchers.
Orlando Hudson added an RBI in the fifth for the D’Backs final run.
In the other split-squad game, the Diamondbacks pounded the White Sox 10-0. The Diamondbacks starter was Edgar Gonzalez. The hot bat was wielded by shortstop Jesus Merchan who went 3-4 while 4 RBI and 2 runs scored. DH Trot Nixon and 3B W. Castillo also had a pair of RBI.
The Diamondbacks reunited for a game in Mesa against the Cubs. Micah Owings with start.
Byrnesie, your next step is to get some extra base hits, multiple hits in a game, and multiple RBIs.
