Suns roll over Grizzlies for second straight win, 132-111
(AP Photo/Paul Connors) The Suns earned a 41-22 lead after the first period and never looked back in the easy, 132-111 win over the Grizzlies.
Led by Stoudemire’s 30 points and 13 rebounds Phoenix shot 59.6 percent from the field to send the Grizzlies back to Memphis with their 15th straight road loss.
Bell scored 20 points (the Suns always win when Raja scores 20 or more), Hill had 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting (Grant had a good all around game with 7 rebounds and 4 assists) while Giricek and Barbosa scored 17 each off the bench.
Since the game was already decided in the first half Coach D’Antoni was able to use his bench and give some rest to his starters, that’s why Nash played only 25 minutes, Shaq 16 and not a single player was involved for more than 30 minutes.
Coach D’Antoni sounded very confident after the game “There were a lot of guys who played well and I was just really happy with our defense” as the Suns need to keep working to improve. While an easy win is always positive news, don’t forget it came against one of the worst road team in the league.
The Grizzlies are probably going to lose more or less every game they’ll play this season since it’s their plan looking at the draft and trying to sell (and possibly relocate) the franchise. Coach Iavaroni won’t be back which is a bit unfair to him.
As expected Rudy Gay led Memphis with 20 points while Milicic and Miller scored 12 each.
The Suns (42-22) now have the first winning streak of the Shaq era and will try to build on that as they will host the Warriors on Thursday night (7:30 PM). It’s an important game since Golden State is trying to hold on the last place good for the playoffs.
“Yeah, we’re growing. We have a lot to work to do” Steve Nash on his post-game comments.
