Nowhere to Go but Up

03/14/08 12:22 AM

Were Coach D and Steve Nash right all along? Are the Suns really in a late season training camp where kinks have to be worked out, tendencies learned and strategy rethought? If that’s the case, the last three games are evidence the Suns have broken camp.

Sunday afternoon the Suns got their biggest win of the season and got the 12:30-start monkey off their back with physical and mental toughness against the Spurs. Tuesday brought the Grizzlies to town for a glorified scrimmage/ritual sacrifice where even Sean Marks got a few minutes. And Thursday the Suns fought against atrocious officiating and a red-hot Baron Davis to show the Warriors who sits atop the run n’ gun perch in the NBA.

The gloom and doom of an embarrassing loss to the Pistons and a pathetic defensive fourth quarter against the Jazz has been replaced with high hopes. Even the Valley’s biggest cynics have to admit, the Suns have looked good this week. Really, really good.

It has surprised everyone in that the Suns have gelled sooner than expected and are suddenly rolling. It would be easy for this team get passive and look ahead, thinking there is time to continue working out the kinks, but a bigger mistake could not be made.

Last I checked, the TrailBlazers ran off a double digit win streak this year and the Kings, like their star Ron Artest, are always scary.

The Suns need a win streak. It would erase the struggle this season has been at times. The stretch run has the makings of an exciting and fun finish for the Suns and it’s in their hands to keep it going, putting the rest of the NBA on notice.

Rock bottom was a difficult time but the Suns are now hitting their stride and making the game look easy. If the improvement continues, this team will be playing their best basketball when the postseason begins and in great position to make another run at an elusive championship.

Couldn’t agree more. This team is just about rolling on all cylinders. They proved that they can win two ways this week. Shaqs game and the Suns game. Its going to be tough for coaches to stop this team cause its really going to be two types of offense in the same night. Defenses are going to have a hard time adjusting to the Suns.

it’s great that the suns proved they can win two different ways: a defensive and half court game against the spurs and now a fast pace pure offensive game against the warriors. good stuff. let’s just hope shaq didnt mind riding the bench for the bulf og the fourth quarter, foul trouble or not, the game was out of his reach.

let it also be said that boris diaw actually had a hard slam dunk last night, perhaps his first of the season. forgot that he had it in him. and i loved seeing nash fool around with sager at the end of the game by taking out his hankerchief and wiping off amare’s sweat. i love nash interviews, he is never fooled by a leading question and doesnt take the reporter too seriously
