Trot Nixon hit a 2-run homer and a 2-run double to lead the Diamondbacks to an 8-4 victory over the San Diego Padres today. Starter Edgar Gonzalez pitched 3 innings of 1-run ball, striking out 3 while walking none. His successor, Dustin Nippert, gave up 3 runs, 2 of them earned, on 5 hits (including a homer) and 3 BB in 1.2 innings. (It sure seemed longer than that!)

Stephen Drew also got 2 RBI while prospects Donnie Kelly and Alex Romero got 1 apiece. Kelly, who played 2B and SS, also got caught stealing and he made a throwing error. Did somebody say nerves or overanxiousness?

Eric Byrnes got a single but was erased by ’s DP. Byrnes in turn GIDP next time up. He’s got a nice little hitting streak going now, and today’s 1-3 left him at .344.
