Amare Out for Season
Amare Stoudemire is out for a minimum of eight weeks after aggravating his left knee in practice today. MRI results have not been released, as Amare is waiting to hear from his doctor to determine if surgery is the best action to take.
That is what I was told as I was sitting at lunch today at work. I got a text from a buddy of mine that read “Did you hear about Amare? He is out for eight weeks. Getting surgery on his bum knee again.” My heart skipped a beat. “Are you kidding me?” He replied, “So much for the championship.” My hopes were still high as I texted back, “Well, maybe Shaq can carry the load.”
Amare Stoudemire has had a heck of a year. Averaging 25 points a game with over nine rebounds and two blocks to supplement, he is clearly the leader of the future and a possible MVP candidate next year. Coming back from micro-fracture surgery is no easy task, and he did it better than anyone in the game.
Anyone would agree that losing him this late in the season as the Suns prepare to make a run in the playoffs would be the worst blow the team could bear. They would need a miracle to get past Dallas and San Antonio with just one, barely-nimble, free-throw-missing, sometimes-dominating big man down low. Losing STAT is like losing a limb.
My optimism was honorable but it was the sword that laid me out to dry and struck me dead. I was caught. I fell for the cheapest joke in the book and the most nationally recognized joke day of the year.
“April fool’s man.”
