STAT and Nash lead Suns past Denver in biggest comeback of the year
(AP Photo/Ross D. Franklin) Stoudemire scored 41 points and grabbed 14 rebounds while Nash added 36 points (8-of-12 from 3-point) and 8 assists to lead the Suns past the Nuggets 132-117.
Amaré and Steve combined for 77 points while taking 40 of the Suns’ 91 shots in the game and Phoenix came back from a 22-point second quarter deficit to beat Denver.
STAT scored 40 or more points for the 11th time in his Suns career, a franchise record, while his new mentor had 20 points and 12 boards, not to mention 4-of-5 from the free throw line. Shaq is shooting 69 percent on free throws (27-for-39) in the last 6 games, I guess it could be one of the best shooting streaks of his career.
With Grant Hill out to heal a couple of injuries (he’s listed as day-to-day) Raja had to play small forward and as usual had a solid game scoring 15 points and getting 10 rebounds.
Each time these two teams play each other you know it’s not going to be a defensive struggle even if the Suns actually used a solid defense, along with some great shooting of course, to come back and win the game as the boos turned into cheers.
The average score in the 3 games these teams have played so far was Suns 127, Nuggets 119
Should the Nuggets miss the Playoffs I am sure they’ll regret this one, in a bad way while the Suns win their 50th game of the season.
Phoenix has now won 50 or more games in each of the last four seasons.
With the win the Suns moved back into a tie with LA for first in the Division.
Denver, shooting 52.7 percent in the game but only 16-for-38 in the second half, had 23 points from Smith, 21 from Iverson, 19 from Martin and 18 from Melo.
“Unbelievable game in a lot of aspects” said Coach D’Antoni on a game that saw the Nuggets lead the first half (70-51) while the Suns had the better in the second (81-47).
“Tomorrow will be fun. I’m sure some where in my career I’ve had one like that” said an amazed George Karl after the game.
“The best thing about this is we play them again in 23 hours” added The Answer.
The Suns will indeed play the Nuggets again tonight in Denver (6 PM) and I have to agree with Black Jesus Disciples, first to 150 “could” win the game but you never know.
