Suns do “their job” against Timberwolves, win 117-88

(AP Photo/Ross D. Franklin) The Suns took care of business early in the game on Friday night beating the Minnesota Timberwolves 117-88. It was 36-16 Phoenix after 12 minutes of play when the Suns put it on cruise control.

We did our job – I thought we played well, especially in the first, got up and took care of business” that was it even for Coach D’Antoni.

Phoenix spent a season low 12 fouls in the game while holding Minnesota to a forgettable 38 percent from the field.

Stoudemire led the Suns with 24 points while Hill, back in the lineup, added 16 and Bell 15. Steve Nash scored 14 points to go with 11 assists and 7 turnovers. Shaq grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds in 22 minutes of play.

Overall the Suns shot 56.6 percent from the field including 9-for-17 from 3-point.

Yet, it was the Suns physical impact in the game that made the difference this time against a Minnesota team the Suns had struggled quite a bit this season. The Suns big lineup was very effective early against Gomes and Jefferson who stot a combined 16-for-36. Jefferson led the Twolves in scoring anyway with 24 points.

Minnesota, I assume, is already thinking about summer vacation and the Lottery; I would be quite surprised if they actually won another game the whole year.

Phoenix used its entire bench, each of the Suns players scored at least a couple, while resting the starters for most of the game.

Suns’ magic number to clinch a playoffs spot is now 2, meaning that any combination of two Suns wins and Warriors losses will secure a place in the Playoffs for our beloved franchise.

Hopefully that Suns win will come on Sunday as Phoenix hosts the Dallas Mavericks (12:30 PM) on national TV.

It’s going to be a great game as always when these two teams face each other. It’s D’Antoni vs Johnson, Dirk vs his best friend, Cuban vs the NBA, the Commish and, as you know, the bloggers….looking forward to the game.
