The team leading the majors in homers so far kept up their bashing ways in the first game played at Chase Field in the 2008 season. Chris Young, Orlando Hudson and took Dodger pitchers over the fence. Reynolds did it twice.

Young, whose new 6-year deal will be announced tomorrow, went 2-4 and a walk with 2 RBI and 2 runs. Hudson went 2-4 with 3 RBI and 2 runs. Reynolds’ line was identical to O-Dog’s. Tonight was “The Sheriff’s” second multi-homer night this young season. He keeps this up and BoMel will not know what to do with Chad Tracy when he comes back from his injury.

The other run was the product of Eric Byrnes’ first inning stand-up triple, which drove home Young, who had begun the game with a walk. Byrnesie then scored on a Hudson single. Eric later singled ahead of Hudson’s homer to score his second run and have his first multi-hit game of the season.

The Diamondbacks staked starter Dan Haren to a four-run lead off Dodger starter Esteban Loaiza before Haren threw his first pitch. The Dodgers made it 4-3 by the 6th inning, with the help of a Justin Upton throwing error. Baseball 101: Throw to the cutoff man. But every now and then, guys forget that, especially when they are young and have throwing arms as strong as Upton’s. But then the Diamondbacks pulled away with 1 run in their half of the 6th, 3 runs in the 7th and 1 in the eighth. The one fly in the ointment tonight was Byrnesie’s last plate appearance, when he GIDP.

Dan Haren was his 1A self through 6 innings. He yielded 3 runs, but only 1 was earned. He struck out 5 and walked none.

The Diamondbacks have now completed the first week of the season at 5-2. I like that.

Tomorrow, Doug Davis takes the mound for the last time before his thyroidectomy. C’mon guys, pick up Double D.
