NBA to review “Hack-a-Shaq”??
I like American League baseball, because I hate watching pitchers hit. I know, I know, call me a communist because I enjoy the DH rule. Actually more accurately, I can’t stand watching pitchers attempt to handle the bat. You know what I’m talking about, when your NL team has 2 outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd, and the dreaded 9th spot is coming up. Grab your gloves guys!
The reason I reference this is that if a pitcher strolls to the plate with a lifetime average of .078, Major League Baseball doesn’t find it necessary to bend the rules to hide a player’s weakness. So why is the National Basketball Association reviewing the “Hack-a-Shaq” rule? Yes, I admit it kills the flow of a game when Fabricio Oberto grabs Shaquille O’Neal when he crosses mid-court and sends him to the line, where 50% is a moral victory for the big guy. But isn’t the whole point of sports and competition in general to exploit your opponent’s weakness? Anybody who has watched (and cringed) when Shaq toes the line knows exactly what his weakness is–it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out.
Please, just don’t respond to this post with “why don’t the Suns just get Shaq a free throw coach?”
