This is just terrible news for ASU fans, but it’s something that comes with the lack of support the teams have been given ASU can’t afford to fund 22 sports because not enough people are showing up to the games, buying ASU merchandise, or donating to the athletic department. It’s up to Sun Devil nation to show up in full force for as many ASU sports as they possibly can. It starts with watching the men and women play baseball and softball. They are both ranked in the top 5, so get out and cheer them on!
The other unfortunate thing is that all the cuts were made for male sports. Title IX requires gender equity in the athletic department, meaning funds, and scholarships, must be equal for both men and women. Because football gives out so many scholarships, it hurts other men’s sports like swimming, wrestling, and tennis.
