Gretzky’s staying put
When the Toronto Maple Leafs fired head coach Paul Maurice last week after just two seasons, the speculation north of the border started running rampant that Wayne Gretzky would leave his posts as Head Coach, Alternate Governor and Managing Partner, and bolt to Toronto to become President of the Leafs. (Damn Canadian grammatical errors!) But Gretzky quelled the speculation in an e-mail sent earlier this week:
“I am the coach of the Coyotes and part owner … as much as I love Canada and the Toronto Maple Leafs, I have no interest in selling my stakes and leaving the Coyotes,”
Good news for the Coyotes. For the first time in a long time, there’s excitement about this team. After a promising season in ‘07-’08, and with a potential star goaltender in place in Bryzgalov, and young studs Mueller, Hanzal, Turris, Porter and possibly Wheeler in place, there will be a buzz around the ‘Yotes in October. Glad to see the architect of future success is sticking around to see it come to fruition.
