ASU Swimming, Wrestling Try To Save Themselves
The News: ASU Men’s Swimming and Wrestling programs, which last week were cut due to budgetary restraints, are attempting to raise enough money to stay in operation for the 2008-2009 academic year.
According to representatives from the teams each will need to raise $240,000 a year to continue competing as official sports and provide a guarantee to cover any shortages in funding.
Both the swimming and wrestling teams have launched websites to help in the fund raising process at SaveASUSwimming.com and SaveASUWrestling.com.
Our Take: More power to both teams. It’s pretty sad that the ASU athletic department can’t find $1.1 Million dollars to help support these teams. Maybe Lisa Love and her $280,000 annual salary (plus incentives) can donate a few bucks to the cause or at the very least Dirk Koetter who is stealing earning $2.85 Million as part of his buyout while still earning a paycheck in the NFL can throw in some spare change.
Our real concern though is, where is SaveASUCheerleading.com. We’d much rather see the pictures on that website than the men’s swimming and wrestling teams sites.
