Snake Bytes: The skid is over
Do you turn into the skid or away from it? Whatever you are suppose to do the Diamondbacks figured it out this weekend salvaging what was left of their 6-game home stand.
Two of the main reasons for the turn around were the starting pitching tandem of Brandon Webb and Dan Haren. Both turned in outings worthy of Cy Young contenders with 4-0 and 5-0 shut out victories Saturday and Sunday.
In the two games Webb and Haren combined to hold the Nationals to 10 hits while striking out 15 and walking 3.
The offense woke up as well hitting 6 home runs over the two games. With Orlando Hudson, Mark Reynolds and Chris Young leading the way.
The back-to-back shut outs were the first since May of 2006.
Tracy comes out swinging
Chad Tracy had something to prove after micro-fracture knee surgery kept him out of the Diamondbacks lineup for a majority of last season.
He certainly has done just that in the week since his return.
In the 7 games he has played this season he has 6 hits in 20 at bats. He has added pop to the Diamondbacks lineup that has sorely been missed over the last month hitting 2 home runs.
The timing of his return couldn’t have been much better either. With Conor Jackson’s minor injury Tracy has been able to fill the void at first.
“The timing was good, obviously, for him to come back,” Manager Bob Melvin said. “With Conor going down, you can just plug him right in there, and you really don’t lose anything offensively.”
As long as Tracy keeps swinging a hot bad expect Melvin to find him a spot in the lineup even when Conor Jackson comes back.
