This is beginning to sound like a broken record, and the broken record of an ’80’s one-hit wonder, no less. The Arizona Diamondbacks got crushed 10-1 by the Milwaukee Brewers today, completing a 3-game sweep. Corey Hart (see left) hit a 3-run inside-the-park homer in a 5-run 4th inning, and Russell Branyan followed that with a conventional dinger, and the Brewers cruised to victory.
Diamondbacks starter Micah Owings was lit up for 5 runs and 8 hits over 3 innings, while reliever Edgar Gonzalez provided no relief at all, giving up 5 more runs in 3 innings.
Chris Burke did have a 3-hit afternoon for the Diamondbacks, finally pushing his season average over the Mendoza line, but he was the only shred of good news offensively for a team that managed only 6 hits and 1 run on Wednesday. In fact, in the 3 games in Milwaukee, the D-Backs hit .206 (20 for 97) as a team, and struck out 27 times. Even uglier–the Snakes committed 7 errors in the series, and only scored 5 runs.
Here’s what others are saying about the Diamondbacks’ miserable stay in Milwaukee…
Thankfully for the Diamondbacks, they’ll “enjoy” a day off in Pittsburgh tomorrow before opening up a rare Friday to Monday 4-game series with the Bucs at PNC Park. Arizona ace Brandon Webb (10-2, 2.69 ERA) will face Pittsburgh’s Ian Snell (2-5, 5.94 ERA) in the opener at 4:05 Friday. Snell is 2-0 with a 2.55 ERA in his career against the Diamondbacks.
