Diamondbacks blanked in Beantown
Former Major Leaguer and current Diamondback radio color analyst Tom Candiotti pitched knuckleballs to the team for Boston starter Tim Wakefield before Wednesday night’s game at Fenway Park. It didn’t help.
Wakefield allowed just 2 hits over 7 innings, and Red Sox reserves Brandon Moss and Kevin Cash combined to drive in all of Boston’s runs in a 5-0 victory.
Moss opened the scoring for Boston, knocking in Mike Lowell with a run-scoring ground out in the 2nd inning. The Red Sox’ second run scored when Moss’ sacrifice fly scored Lowell in the 6th. And backup catcher Cash put the game out of reach in the 8th with a 3-run home run off of Arizona reliever Juan Cruz.
Diamondbacks starter Randy Johnson pitched well, allowing just 2 runs in 6 innings, but received no run support and lost his 5th straight decision. Johnson’s record falls to 4-6 on the season.
Arizona’s offense continues to sputter. The Diamondbacks only managed 3 hits, 2 of them from second baseman Orlando Hudson.
Here’s what others are saying about the Red Sox shutout win over Arizona…
Thursday is a day off for the Diamondbacks before wrapping up their 9-game road trip in Miami against the Marlins starting on Friday.
