Diamondbacks blank Nats 2-0
Brandon Webb combined with 3 different relievers on a 6-hit shutout, and the Arizona Diamondbacks shut out the Washington Nationals 2-0 in the first game of a 3-game series at Nationals Park.
Webb worked 6 innings, allowing just 6 hits, and recorded 6 strikeouts in becoming the Majors’ first 13-game winner. The bullpen picked up where Webb left off. Chad Qualls, Tony Pena and Brandon Webb combined on 3 innings of perfect relief. Lyon recorded his 19th save in 22 opportunities.
Chris Young opened the scoring in the 3rd inning when he singled in Chris Burke. The D-Backs tacked on another run in the 6th, when Mark Reynolds scored after a base hit by Robby Hammock, and an error on Washington center fielder Roger Bernadina. That was more than enough offense for Arizona.
This was the third time the Diamondbacks have shut out the Nationals in 5 games this season. The win also pushes the Diamondbacks back to even at 45-45, and at worst they’re still in a tie for first place in the National League West with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The 3-game series contines tomorrow with Washington sending lefty Jon Lannan to the mound. He’ll be faced by Diamondbacks’ right-hander Micah Owings. First pitch is at 4:10 Arizona time.
