D-Backs hang on, beat Dodgers 3-2
Dan Haren is really good. That about says it all. Conor Jackson jump started the Diamondbacks offense with a solo homer in the first, followed by an rbi ground rule double by Chad Tracy, and Haren pretty much did the rest over the next 7 innings. Haren pitched shutout ball, allowing just 4 hits while striking out 7 for his 9th win of the year, 3-2 over the Dodgers.
The game wasn’t without its intrigue however. Brandon Lyon came on in the 9th, and allowed two runs, including a solo homer to Jeff Kent, but got Matt Kemp to fly out and end the game, stranding the tying run at third base. The save was Lyon’s 20th of the season, extending his career-high in that category.
The win upped the Diamondbacks record to 48-49, and again pushed them one game ahead of the Dodgers in the National League West.
Here’s what others are saying about the Diamondbacks’ 3-2 squeaker over the Dodgers…
The series concludes tomorrow, with 13-game winner Brandon Webb on the mound for the Diamondbacks, against L.A. righty Derek Lowe. First pitch is at 1:10 Arizona time.
